Cheese Board

Swiss

Supplies:

  • Porous sponge
  • Caulking
  • Acrylic paints: yellow and cream
  • Matte Mod Podge
  • Optional: scissors to cut out a wedge

Coat your sponge in a thick layer of matte Mod Podge.

Let dry.

Mix together cream and yellow paint with a generous amount of caulking until you get a color resembling swiss-cheese.

Apply a thick coat of the mixture to the surface of the sponge. Make sure to get the mixture down into all the holes in the sponge. It’s okay if some of the holes get filled in as this adds a bit more of a realistic texture.

Let dry.

If you want, you can cut a wedge out of the wheel using scissors.

Apply a layer of matte Mod Podge.

Let dry.

Blue

Supplies:

  • Porous sponge
  • All-purpose crack filler
  • Acrylic Paints: cream, blue, dark green

Cut up your sponge into medium sized bits. The goal is to emulate the shape of large blue cheese crumbles.

Mix together a blue and dark green paint color and fill in some of the holes of the sponge.

While that is still wet, mix together cream paint and all purpose crack filler. Apply that mixture to the sponge in a stippling motion, leaving some areas thick to give it texture.

It is okay if the green paint gets smudged, this will add to the look. You can also add more green while the all-purpose filler is still wet to create more streaks of color.

Let dry.

Gouda

Supplies:

  • Air dy clay/model magic
  • Paints: yellow, white, red
  • Glossy Mod Podge
  • Matte Mod Podge
  • Plastic knife or similar

Form a ball of model magic into the shape of a wedge of cheese. To do so, start by making a cone shape, then flatten out the sides of the cone. The sides on the top and bottom of the shape should be more narrow than the ones on the side. Then, create a curve at the base than connects the two sides.

Let dry.

Paint the two wide sides with a mixture of yellow and white paint to mimic the color of gouda cheese.

Paint all other sides with two coats of a bright red color. This will be the rind.

Let dry.

Coat the red areas with glossy Mod Podge and the yellow areas with matte Mod Podge.

Brie

Supplies:

  • Air dy clay/model magic
  • Acrylic Paints: yellow, white, cream
  • Glossy Mod Podge
  • Matte Mod Podge
  • Plastic knife or similar

Create a cylinder out of Mod Podge. This cylinder should be short and wide, about 2 inches tall and 4-5 inches wide.

Cut a wedge out of the cylinder and flatten out the insides of the cut-out.

Accordian fold some aluminum foil or wax paper and press against the top of the cylinder to create some texture.

Let dry.

Paint the inside of the cut-out with a mixture of yellow and white.

Paint the rest of the sphere with a cream color. This will be the rind.

Let dry.

Coat the inside with glossy Mod Podge and the outside with matte Mod Podge.

Cheddar

Supplies:

  • Cube shaped sponge or styrofoam
  • Air dy clay/model magic
  • Acrylic paints: Red and orange
  • Optional for slices: thin sheet of styrofoam

Roll out a thin layer of airdry clay and drape it over the cube. Smooth it out until the cube is evenly covered in clay.  (Alternatively, shape a cube out of your clay).

Let dry.

Mix together a sharp cheddar color with your paint and add a couple coats to the cube. You can also add this color to the thin styrofoam for slices.

Let dry.
