Popcorn

Supplies:

  • Packing peanuts
  • Scissors
  • Yellow acrylic paint
  • Spray bottle
  • Popcorn container

Step 1: Shape the popcorn

Use scissors to cut a packing peanut in half.

From the cut side, fold in the rough edges towards the center of the peanut. Then go around the outside perimeter pinching the peanut to create an indentation on the side. Round off the top of the peanut creating a ridge like top. Continue pinching until you feel like you have the desired result.

Repeat this process until you have enough “popcorn” to fill the container you are using.

Step 2: Add the color

Take the popcorn outside to an area for painting. Spread the “popcorn” onto a garbage bag and spray lightly with a mixture of water and yellow acrylic paint (1 part yellow acrylic paint to 3 parts water). Only spray one side so it looks like your popcorn is lightly buttered.

Fill your container with your popcorn and display. If you don’t have enough popcorn to completely fill your container don’t worry. You can use regular packing peanuts or paper towels to fill the bottom and just top it with the popcorn you made.
