Milkshake
Supplies:
- Lightweight spackle
- Acrylic paints: Pink, brown, cream, and red
- Popsicle stick
- Paintbrush
- Toilet paper roll & small piece of cardboard
- Icing bag & tip
- For toppings:
- Cherry – Model magic or air-dry clay
- Faux sprinkles (tutorial here)
- Clear Silicone
- Alcohol ink: red
- Plastic baggie
Step 1: Create the mixture & apply to the inside of the glass
Mix together lightweight spackling and acrylic paint. (Brown for chocolate and pink for strawberry)
Mix well and when you have the desired color coat the inside of your glass with the mixture. Make sure the inside of your glass is evenly coated with the mixture and there are no gaps.
Bring the mixture up as high as you want it then take a slightly wet paintbrush to clean up around the top edge. Remove any leftover moisture from the wet paintbrush with a paper towel being careful not to get it in the mixture.
Step 2: Create a false bottom & cover with the mixture
To save product, I suggest creating a false bottom using a toilet paper roll and cardboard cover. Make sure the roll is not higher than the height that you want your milkshake and hot glue a cardboard disk to the top of the roll. Gently place the roll into your glass being careful not to scrape the side of the glass.
Fill the remaining space with the shake mixture. I suggest placing the mixture into a plastic bag and pipe it into the glass and smooth it out with a popsicle stick. You may need to clean the top of the milkshake mixture again with the wet paintbrush and paper towel leaving a clean line.
Step 3: Make the cherry
Form a one inch ball out of model magic air dry clay about the size of a real cherry. Create an indentation on the top of the cherry with a clay tool or your fingertip to push into the clay.
Then cut a 2-3 inch piece of florist wire then poke it into the top of the cherry where the stem would be.
After the cherry is dry, paint with two to three coats of cherry red acrylic paint (you might want to mix some reds to get the exact color you like). Make sure that none of the white clay shows through then let dry.
Apply a layer of glossy mod podge.
Step 4: Mix & pipe the faux whipped cream
For the whipped cream topping, mix about a cup of lightweight spackling and a small amount of cream paint to give it a true whipped cream color.
Once mixed, add the mixture to a piping bag and use a 1 M tip to pipe it onto the shake. Pipe slowly starting from the side of the glass in a circular motion then work your way to the top. While the mixture is still wet, cut a straw to fit your milkshake (remember it is only going through the whipped cream so it only needs to be about 4 inches or so). Gently put the straw into the whipped topping.
Step 5: Add the toppings
Now you can add whatever toppings you like to your milkshake. You can add faux sprinkles or other toppings. I added faux sprinkles to my chocolate shake and a strawberry sauce drizzle to my strawberry shake.
To create the strawberry sauce mix a small amount of 100% clear silicone with a few drops of alcohol ink (I used a small amount of both scarlet and red). Transfer to a small baggie and cut the tip off to use as a piping bag. Drizzle over the whipped cream. Place the cherry you previously made onto the top of your whipped cream. Let dry.
